Packages

We offer several pre-pay only ‘early bird’ packages
Is there a maximum or minimum in the number of papers that I can get marked?

No, there is no maximum or minimum number of papers that you can get marked unless you choose one of our early bird packages. You do not need to commit to a specific number of papers either. Some candidates like to have one paper marked per week (or month), some prefer to have them all marked – it all depends on what you feel you need.

When will my paper be marked?

If your papers are submitted as part of our Three-in-One, Two-in-One or SOAr packages, your non-comprehensive simulations will be returned to you within 24 hours and your comprehensive simulations will be returned to you within 48 hours.

Your paper will be marked within “three business days” – this excludes weekends and statutory holidays (including the August Civic Holiday and Labour Day) and we commit to returning your paper by 11:59PM (Eastern Time) on the third business day following your submission. For example, in a non-holiday week, papers received at any time on Monday are due back to you at 11:59PM on Thursday, and papers received at any time on Thursday are due at 11:59PM Tuesday.

That said, this is our final deadline – we make every effort to return your paper to you much sooner than this, and you will likely receive your paper back the next day or the day after. Unfortunately, we cannot offer special treatment and papers are marked by our markers in the order received. Since each paper is marked by a different marker, you may receive marked papers out of order, but you will receive them all within the deadline.

Who will mark my papers submitted for marking?

exaMENTOR’s owners and our team of experienced markers are all involved in marking your papers. In order to provide you with the best quality and quickest turnaround, each marker is assigned as a “simulation expert.” This means the same marker will be responsible for a simulation throughout the season – allowing them to become familiar with common weaknesses and to provide you with consistent and knowledgeable feedback. Over the course of the season, depending on how many papers you submit, it is likely each one of us will mark at least one of your papers. All of our markers have experience marking either the UFE or with one of the provincial programs.

How are your workshops different then other workshops offered by prep programs?

Are you tired of big lectures halls and feeling like a number? If the answer is yes and you are looking for an interactive environment where you are able to ask questions during the lecture, actively participate in the session and experience a new style of pedagogy – engaging, fun and productive, then our workshops are for you.

We care about your success, time and money that is why we offer our workshops only in small groups only on weekends to minimize your time off work and we focus only on what will help you pass the exam.

What can you expect out of our workshop? We established a ‘drills’ technique that will allow you to improve your skills right on the spot. Just check out what our candidates are saying about our workshops

I noticed you don’t offer any online courses. Why is that?

exaMENTOR only offers those services that we know to work well. Based on our experience of tutoring hundreds of candidates, we have developed an approach that is unique to exaMENTOR and that we know to work.

While going over technical material using online videos might seem appealing to you at first, we know that it is the easy way out. You might feel great about having listened to a video for a number of hours but your brain will likely be overwhelmed with all the information and you will have to review the material in any case.

We recommend a less expensive and more effective way of studying your technical – take out a technical summary and study it! We will be glad to refer you to some excellent resources in the industry and help you select the best one.

How does exaMENTOR compare itself to other programs available in the industry?

We don’t compare ourselves to the industry because our program is unique and is based on what we know to work and what we know it work well. We have developed our unique pedagogy that is based on two important factors: 1) our experience and 2) our research into effective-learning.

Our experience
We have trained and coached hundreds of candidates who were able to overcome the hurdle of the CPA, CA exams only after working with our coaches and markers. Over the years, we learned that every candidate is unique and requires individual attention and yet, there are some things that are common to all candidates. These observations are not based just on our experience when we wrote the exam, they are based on years of professional coaching experience.

Our analysis of research on effective learning
We analyzed research of many renowned researchers and drew conclusions based on that research.

Here are some examples of that research:

  1. A classic study of music students showed that despite diligent and regular practice, some students were actually seen to have gotten worse over time, essentially by reinforcing their mistakes over and over again.
  2. Rote learning can be described as memorization of terms and facts but not necessarily how to use them to solve problems or to apply them in new situations. This is the kind of learning that happens when one diligently “attends to the relevant information but has not understood it and, therefore, cannot use it.”
  3. There are numerous ways to learn meaningfully, many of which are outlined in a well-known essay by the former head of the American Psychological Society Robert Bjork. While Dr. Bjork describes various techniques, one of them is to test oneself or be tested by a partner, throughout the preparation process. This is known to allow the learner to flexibly organize the material, which in turn will aid the retrieval process during exam time.
